Best practice in Burundi is to separate incoming coffee by day lots. As coffee delivered to the mill on any set day is recorded together as a single lot, it’s possible to trace each farmer who contributed & distribute bonus payments for quality. Managers can identify & keep high quality lots separate, offer them individually or allow buyers to combine. It generates additional premiums directly related to quality, which in turn benefits farmers & encourages good practices. Better coffee for you, more money for the farmers, that’s the ticket.
